 Grant Applications for Seniors Recreational Programs

The Ontario Government is accepting grant applications for a new Active for Life Recreation Stream for seniors under the Ontario Sport and Recreation Communities Fund. The deadline is Tuesday, January 16, 2018.

The grant is intended to expand community engagement opportunities for seniors as a part of Aging with Confidence: Ontario’s Action Plan for Seniors. The funded projects are geared towards maintaining/improving functional ability levels through recreation opportunities designed for people over 65 years of age.

Seniors must be indicated as the primary target group. Partnerships with other organizations are highly encouraged.

Transitions in Care Ideabook

The Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP) and the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) recently released an ideabook showcasing successful initiatives addressing transitions in care. AFHTO members and affiliated physicians are prominently featured including Taddle Creek, Georgian Bay, Hamilton, Scarborough Academic, Guelph, OakMed FHTs and Dr. Anil Maheshwari of Grandview Medical FHT.

Measuring Up 2017

Health Quality Ontario (HQO) released their yearly report on Ontario’s health system in late October. The primary care section (pg. 19) focused on continuity of care, same day-next day access, impact of geography and improvement in colorectal cancer screening rate.

Proposed Changes to Laws Affecting Ontario Not-For-Profits and Charities

On September 14, 2017, Bill 154, An Act to cut unnecessary red tape by enacting one new Act and making various amendments and repeals, received first reading in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. It proposes amendments to three important statutes: the Corporations Act, the proposed Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, 2010 and the Charities Accounting Act.
