OurCare final report now available

The final OurCare report is now available, together with a refreshed website (OurCare.ca). The largest public engagement on the future of primary care in Canada, it introduces the OurCare Standards, “six simple statements that summarize what every person in Canada should expect from the primary care system”. The first is:

“Everyone has a relationship with a primary care clinician who works with other health professionals in a publicly funded team.”

Primary care physicians enabling integrated care

“This program provides Mainpro+ certification to integrated health care teams (i.e., OHTs), so that family physicians can earn Mainpro+ credits for participating in their sessions. There are two ways to make use of this program:

  • Participate in the OCFP’s certified program and earn Mainpro+ credits while facilitating initial discussions regarding the development of integrated health care teams. This program has been created by the OCFP, in partnership with the Association of Family Health Teams (AFHTO), Ontario Medical Association (OMA) and Section on General Family Practice (SGFP).
  • Certify your own sessions or programs that provide learning opportunities for family doctors.

Connect with your peers using AFHTO’s IHP Directory

IHPs in AFHTO member teams are encouraged to sign up to AFHTO’s IHP Directory! This directory will help improve AFHTO’s communication to IHPs, and it will support IHP networking, information sharing, and collaboration.

After you sign up, you will be emailed a link to a spreadsheet with the names, professions, team names, and work emails of all IHPs who have signed up for open communication. You may sort by profession to see the names of those in the same discipline as you.

AFHTO will be checking the directory and emailing links to new registrants every 1-2 weeks. We look forward to improved communication from AFHTO to IHPs, and across IHPs in AFHTO-member teams!

Recognizing, identifying, and supporting the engagement of youth providing care (rise up): now with co-design workshops

University Health Network researchers are interested in learning about your experience with young caregivers. The survey will ask about your clinical background, familiarity, and encounters with young caregivers, understanding of the impact that caring can have on young people, and support for young caregivers. The survey is available here. You can input your email for a gift card raffle at the end.

For clinicians interested in improving the healthcare interactions of young caregivers, contact isabelle.caven@uhn.ca  to participate in one or a series of co-design workshops in March 2024 ($50 gift card honorariums provided). They’re co-creating, with healthcare providers and young caregivers across Canada, innovative solutions to support young people’s interactions with the healthcare system in their caring roles.
