 Health Care Policy Contribution Program Call for Proposals
The HCPCP is launching a Call for Proposals to support innovations in three priority areas:

  1. Home and community-based care
  2. Mental health care
  3. Palliative and end-of-life care

This call consists of two-stages. The first stage is the submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI), and the second is the submission of full applications. Applicants whose LOI submissions are successful will be invited to the second stage. Deadline to submit your LOI is Feb. 16, 2018.

Housecalls: Essential art in family medicine
This article answers the question, “How do we prepare family medicine residents to have the competencies required to provide home-based primary care?”. Coauthored by Drs. Tia Pham and Sabrina Akhtar of South East Toronto and Toronto Western FHTs respectively, along with Dr. Difat Jakubovicz of St. Joseph’s Health Centre, as part of ‘Teaching Moment’, a quarterly series in Canadian Family Physician. Updated Infection Prevention and Control FAQ
Public Health Ontario has updated its frequently asked questions about Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) lapses in community settings. The update includes a new section on office design/facilities and additional guidance on reprocessing and sterilizers.
Osteoarthritis (OA) Tool
The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), the Arthritis Alliance of Canada (AAC), and the Centre for Effective Practice (CEP) have joined forces to develop the Osteoarthritis (OA) Tool to help health care providers understand that osteoarthritis is a common, treatable, chronic illness.
 
  Volunteers needed for Special Olympics
Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing year-round training and competitions to more than 4.5 million athletes in 170 countries. “Healthy Athletes”, a health screening and education program, runs in conjunction with these events. They’re seeking volunteer healthcare providers in various disciplines who are interested in being a part of this program. Volunteers are only required to commit to 1-2 screenings a year. New members needed for the Patient, Family and Public Advisors Council– Health Quality Ontario is looking for volunteer advisors from the public to help shape their efforts to improve health experiences and the quality of care for all. The call for new members closes Feb. 16, 2018.

Starting on OpioidsMany Ontarians were newly started on high-dose prescription opioids, this according to a new report, despite evidence that those who receive prescription opioids at high doses are several times more likely to overdose compared to those on lower doses. Additionally, of 1.3 million people started on opioids, nearly 325,000 were started with a prescription for more than 7 days, which is associated with a higher risk of long-term use.
