AFHTO response to 2024 Fall Economic Statement and social media resources for advocacy
On October 30 we sent an email subject “AFHTO response to 2024 Fall Economic Statement” to the EDs/Admin Leads, Board chairs and lead clinicians of member teams.
“Today, AFHTO shared our response to Ontario’s 2024 Fall Economic Statement, which overlooked the urgent need for investment in the primary care sector to address our growing health human resources challenges. We continue our work to raise awareness of this issue and call on government to urgently address this crisis.
While we recognize this is disappointing news, it has never been more important to continue to raise awareness and call for solutions in the lead-up to the 2025 Ontario Budget and a potential provincial election in early 2025. We have launched a petition urging the Ontario government to take action to close the significant wage gap in the community health sector and support our workforce. We are planning to have this petition read in the provincial legislature to raise further awareness of this issue.
We ask each member of your organization to sign and share the petition today. The more signatures we get, the louder our message will be to decisionmakers.
Please sign the petition and share it widely with your networks, including your broader community. Every signature counts.”

Peers for Joy in Work: Ontario family physicians supporting each other
“What if being a family physician who appreciates – rather than resents – their clinical work is within reach? If you could, more often, be the kind of doctor you hoped to be?
The Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto has launched an Ontario-wide program to help family physicians mitigate burnout and facilitate finding joy in practice. The program matches you with a trained “Peer Guide” who helps you remember what drove you to become a family physician and identify ways to create joy in your clinical work again. You will receive three 1:1, 30-minute sessions. With support from the Ontario Medical Association, we are pleased to provide an honorarium of $150 for participating and 4.5 Mainpro+ CPD credits. Learn more and register HERE.” Spots are limited- please sign up by November 18 to reserve your spot.
