Market Salary Review Survey update

The market salary review survey closed on May 26th, 2023. AFHTO members had an excellent participation rate, with 42% of members responding to the survey. Eckler, a third-party consultant, is currently analyzing the results and will be sharing a draft report with AFHTO by the end of August.

AFHTO has reaffirmed its commitment to share the market salary review report with MOH when it’s completed, and we are on track to get it in their hands in time to inform their budget planning process.
We also understand the 11% increase acute care nurses are receiving has caused a lot of discussion and Eckler will be factoring it into their analysis and report. This will help ensure that the Ministry has an accurate view of the current pay disparity between hospital and primary care providers.

We’re working with the Ontario Hospital Association to obtain some additional data that will help round out the salary grid and make it more representative for our final report, which will be shared with AFHTO members.

We are also working with the Primary Care Collaborative to learn if and when any funds from the Bill 124 challenge will flow to community-based professionals.

We understand the significant recruitment and retention issues being faced by the sector and this data will be central to our call on the government for greater salary alignment across sectors.

Funding for new and expanded midwifery services

Ontario is investing $8.27 million for new and expanded midwifery services. This funding includes:

  • $4.82 million (new and one-time funding available immediately) to expand midwifery services in CHCs, hospitals, FHTs, existing midwifery practices and Indigenous midwifery programs.
  • $3.45 million to support future initiatives put forward by health care providers to expand midwifery services, providing more low-risk expectant families with access to care.

A call for proposals launched Aug. 10 will provide $2 million for Expanded Midwifery Care Models for community-based midwifery services in hospitals and in primary care team-based settings and $1.45 million to support the Indigenous Midwifery Program models. Applications are now available for distribution. Please send an email to midwifery@ontario.ca and indicate in the subject line which application you are requesting. Read more here- EN and FR.

Opportunity to receive free N95 masks during Wildfire Season

The Canadian Red Cross, on behalf of the Government of Canada, is working to support those who are feeling the impacts of poor air quality due to an unprecedented wildfire season by offering an inventory of N95 masks. The target audience is people living and working in impacted communities, highlighting vulnerable groups.

They’re looking at ways to mobilize these masks into the field as soon as possible as they have expiry dates in October and November of 2023. They’d like to offer them to your organization or networks and can facilitate the transfer and shipment to interested parties. Please note there is no cost to the receiving organization or entity.

The program is open now and will be available until early September. If you are interested, you can request N95 inventory using this link redcross.ca/maskdistribution or croixrouge.ca/distributionmasques .

Changes to the QI In Action eBulletin

AFHTO continually evaluates our communications to ensure we provide high-quality and relevant information to members.  Our monthly “QI In Action” eBulletin is intended to deliver insightful information and resources to help teams improve the services they offer.

We’re excited to announce that our eBulletin will shift to a quarterly release.  This will allow us to delve deep into the details and provide richer content. Highlighting the breadth and quality of work across our membership and the primary care sector continues to be the driving force behind the eBulletin and we’ll continue to spotlight programs and research aligned with the Quintuple Aim.

Members can expect the first release of the quarterly eBulletin this Fall.

New and improved Canadian Traumatic Brain Injury Clinical Practice Guideline

The Canadian Clinical Practice Guideline for the Rehabilitation of Adults with Moderate to Severe TBI has been updated with new evidence. After extensive review of new literature and engagement of key clinical partners, they have produced updated best-practice recommendations, resources, and clinical tools to support your practice. This work is encompassed in the Neurotrauma Care Pathways Project, in recognition that up-to-date evidence is foundational for standardized care pathways to ensure equity of access to care across the continuum.
