| Introducing the IHP Advisory Council AFHTO was pleased to receive many applications from qualified interprofessional health care providers (IHP) to join the new IHP Advisory Council. All applications were reviewed in May, and we’re now happy to announce 10 highly skilled members have accepted the invitation to join the Council. The Council members who will represent and advocate for IHPs across member FHTs and NPLCs are listed here and the Terms of Reference can be seen here.AFHTO is preparing for the first official meeting of the Council in September, and members will be formally announced at our annual conference. We’re happy to welcome the first IHP Advisory Council! |

| Update regarding resources & training to help support patients with dementia- NPLCs now included After advocating for a more inclusive study, McGill researchers have agreed “We have considered your suggestion to open the study to NPLC and they do meet our eligibility criteria. Their point of view would be a valuable addition if they are interested in participating.”If you have older patients, your team can access education, training, and career development by participating in a research study. You will also receive financial compensation for your contribution. Researchers want to work with 28 teams from Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick to identify the key ingredients for successfully managing dementia in primary care. City of Lakes FHT receives grant to research use of psychoactive drugs The Northern Ontario Academic Medicine Association (NOAMA) has awarded City of Lakes FHT a $50,000 research grant to address inappropriate or overuse of benzodiazepines.Physicians at the team have embraced the current best practice recommendations and are taking a targeted look at the use of benzodiazepines and z-drugs as sleep aids in the elderly, and are discontinuing or reducing the dose as appropriate in consultation with the patient. The purpose of this research is to determine if there are any measurable changes to the timed-up-and-go (TUG) and frail scale following these medication changes. Find out more here. |
