The provincial election is now underway
The provincial election campaigning has started and candidates are knocking on doors and meeting with voters, as well as local organizations that serve the community they wish to represent. Now is the time to contact candidates’ campaign offices to request a meeting to advocate for team-based primary care, and to ask they commit to investing in it if elected. For them to do that, they need to hear from people like you in their community and understand its local value.Advocacy tools are now on our website, and you will receive three kits with this information (one for each major party) by mail early next week. Let’s use these resources and your knowledge of the value of team-based primary care to show candidates why they should commit to advocating for further investments in it if elected. Please let AFHTO know how your meetings go and share pictures. You can also use the hashtag  #EveryCommunityEveryPatient!Election Day is June 7.

Patients as partners: Is your team ready? Willing? Able?
Our research partners at St. Michael’s Hospital are surveying FHTs and CHCs across Ontario to find out where teams are at, where they want to be, and what they need to get there when it comes to involving patients as partners in their work. Results of the survey will be shared with national and international stakeholders and policymakers, so they can make better decisions when it comes to providing resources and structures for patient engagement. So far, nearly 150 teams have participated. You have until May 25th to add your voice – and get a shot at a $50 prepaid Visa card! Complete the 10-minute survey here, or email Nadiya Sunderji for more information.
Resources and training to help support your patients with dementia
If you have older patients, your team can access education, training, and career development by participating in a research study. You will also receive financial compensation for your contribution. Researchers from McGill University want to work with 28 FHTs from Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick to identify the key ingredients for successfully managing dementia in primary care. Wondering if this is right for your team? See this flyer for more information, or contact the researchers Dr. Isabelle Vedel and Marine Hardouin
