Dear AFHTO Members, black and white photo of Jess smiling in glasses

As we approach the close of a year filled with new beginnings, challenges and triumphs, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the dedication you show every day. The work you do in service of the communities you care for is nothing short of inspiring.

The holiday season often brings additional demands for teams. Please know that this does not go unnoticed. The reality is, it’s during times like these—when the pressures are highest—that your unwavering compassion and commitment are needed most. Your ability to continue providing exceptional care, even in the face of adversity, fuels not just the work we do together but also my personal drive to keep advocating for the changes that will support you in your vital work. The way you show up for your patients and their families each and every day is a reminder of why we do what we do. For that, I thank you.

Since joining the organization just a few months ago, I’ve seen our member organizations come together to tackle some of the most urgent issues in our sector—chief among them, the need to modernize compensation to reflect market rates and address the growing impact of inflation. I want to emphasize that this is not just a financial issue; it’s about ensuring that the value of the work you do is truly recognized. Fair compensation is a fundamental piece of the sustainability of our health system, and together, we’re making sure that message is heard loud and clear.

I also want to recognize the leadership many of you have demonstrated in shaping the future of healthcare through the Ontario Health Team and Primary Care Network models. I know this work requires a tremendous amount of time, energy, and focus. But it’s this very commitment that will ensure primary care remains at the heart of a healthcare system that is sustainable, equitable, and effective. Your efforts aren’t just making an impact within your own organizations—they’re strengthening the broader health system for all.

We have achieved so much together already—our annual conference energized us, the launch of our strategic plan set us on a bold new path, and our advocacy efforts, including the #ForUsForYou campaign, are making waves. Our coordinated pre-budget submissions have put us in a strong position to advocate for the changes needed in our sector, and our presence at Queen’s Park alongside nine other provincial organizations marked a powerful statement of unity for the community care sector.

Looking ahead, we’re committed to ensuring that our advocacy remains grounded in the real, immediate needs of the healthcare system. We’ve taken significant steps, which will include sending a letter to Dr. Philpott that outline critical actions to support primary care and signing the Primary Care Collaborative’s pre-budget submission to drive system-wide change.

Thank you again for your tireless commitment and for the incredible work you do. As we approach the holidays, I hope you find the time to rest and recharge. Please know that you have our full support as we continue to move forward, together, toward a stronger future.

With deep gratitude and respect,

Jess Rogers
