Regarding the petition on Change.org

We’ve received some feedback regarding the petition on Change.org and wanted to clarify any concerns about requests for monetary contributions.

The donation prompts you may see are part of Change.org’s platform, not something we have set up. These optional contributions are a way for Change.org to support their operations, as they offer petition setup for free. Unfortunately, this is not a setting we can disable.

For those who choose to chip in, Change.org uses these contributions to promote the petition to additional supporters, helping it gain more visibility and signatures. However, please note that contributing is entirely voluntary.

By way of update, we have nearly 7,500 signatures, but we need to keep the momentum going!

If you haven’t yet signed or shared the petition, we encourage you to do so to help demonstrate the urgent need for wage parity in the community health sector. As a reminder, we have prepared social assets and a poster to help raise awareness of the petition.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Seeking participants for study “The Effect of One’s Future Retirement on Mood”

“Researchers at the Stress and Healthy Aging Lab, Toronto Metropolitan University and the Behavioural Insights Team, with funding support from the Healthcare Of Ontario Pension Plan are conducting a study titled, The Effect of One’s Future Retirement on Mood.

The study has been approved by Toronto Metropolitan University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB), and all participation is completely voluntary and confidential.

We are recruiting 200 full-time workers between the ages of 40-60 years, with and without a workplace pension, to participate in an in-person study about their wellbeing pre-retirement. We expect participation to last 60 minutes. Travel to 105 Bond Street, Toronto ON (near Yonge/Dundas) is required.

Participants will receive a $100 honorarium for a 1-hour in-lab study session.”

Updated osteoarthritis quality standard

“Ontario Health has released an updated quality standard on osteoarthritis. Originally released in 2018, the Osteoarthritis: Care for Adults With Osteoarthritis of the Knee, Hip, or Hand quality standard has been expanded to include osteoarthritis of the shoulder and updated to align with the most recent clinical evidence. Please review and share the updated quality standard and accompanying resources such as the placemat, patient guide, and technical specifications with your networks. For more information, please contact QualityStandards@OntarioHealth.ca.”

Supporting caregivers under the age of 25

“Do you encounter youth under the age of 25 who are caregivers for a family member or loved one in your clinical practice? Check out this toolkit to help you learn how to better engage, partner, and support young carers!

Researchers at the University Health Network collaborated with young carers, caregiving organizations and healthcare providers to build a toolkit for healthcare providers to better recognize and support young carers in their clinical practice. This toolkit was co-designed with young carers, healthcare providers and organizations across the country, and is embedded with evidence from a cross-Canada survey of healthcare providers’ awareness and support of young carers.

The toolkit provides guiding questions and actions for healthcare providers to learn more about the vital care responsibilities that young people take on, integrate their expertise as caregivers, and connect young carers to resources to support their needs.”
