Dear Members,
In recognition of the staffing crisis community health organizations are facing, a collection of Ontario’s community health care associations is launching a new advocacy campaign aimed at closing the wage gap between the community health sector and other sectors. This advocacy campaign includes a government relations strategy to mobilize the Government of Ontario in the lead-up to Budget 2025.
Last year, ten Ontario-based community health organizations representing over 200,000 community health workers released a report outlining the critical staffing crisis community health organizations are facing as part of a broader government relations strategy. Based on the findings of this report, the ten associations released a pre-budget submission that included actions the Ontario government can take.
To support this exciting next phase of advocacy, we invite you to participate in two key initiatives:
Member Survey
To support our advocacy efforts, we are conducting a short survey. This survey aims to gather valuable data and on-the-ground examples that will underline the challenges faced by our workforce and fortify our policy asks to the Ontario government. By participating, you not only contribute to a greater understanding of the sector’s needs, but you also have the opportunity to share your organization’s specific challenges and successes.
Please note, your participation is entirely voluntary, and the survey can be completed in approximately 10 minutes. It includes a mix of multiple-choice and open-ended questions, allowing for pre-formulated responses or the addition of any further details you wish to share. The link to the survey can be found here.
We are also seeking members willing to share stories or represent our cause as spokespeople. If you are interested, there will be an opportunity within the survey to indicate your willingness to further support our advocacy efforts.
Your input is essential in shaping our advocacy strategies and informing government relations to support meaningful change.
We kindly ask for your survey responses by June 30, 2024, to ensure we receive your input and can incorporate it into our advocacy.
Member Advocacy Webinar
Additionally, we invite you to join our Member Advocacy Webinar on June 13, from 3-4 PM. This online session will provide members an overview of our government relations strategy, with a focus on how your organizations can get involved in grassroots advocacy within your communities and what tools are being provided to support these efforts. Your participation will be instrumental in helping us advocate effectively with local MPPs throughout the summer.
Please register for the webinar via this link and prepare to engage in a detailed discussion about our strategies and how you can contribute.
Thank you in advance for your time and invaluable contributions.
Warm regards,
Your AFHTO Team
